CLERMONT, Fla. — The Endicott softball team lost a pair of games to Wisconsin-Whitewater (1-0) and No. 14 Tufts (3-0) on Tuesday evening at Legends Way.
GAME ONE: Wisconsin-Whitewater 1, Endicott 0
WP (2-0): Maddy Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.) — 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K
LP (1-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Wisconsin-Whitewater scored the lone run of the contest on a delayed double steal in the fifth inning to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Couto produced another solid performance in the circle for the Gulls working around runners in scoring position in three out of the first four innings before the Warhawks broke through.
So far this spring, Couto is 1-1 in three appearances (two starts, one save) with an unblemished ERA and 16 strikeouts (only three walks).
Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) had both hits (singles) for the Gulls in the setback.
GAME TWO: No. 14 Tufts 3, Endicott 0
WP (3-0): Sky Johnson (Pismo Beach, Calif.) — 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K
LP (1-1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
The Jumbos pushed their winning streak to eight straight games with a solo run in the fourth (single RF) and two more in the seventh (double LC, sac fly RF).
Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) broke up the no-hitter in the sixth with an infield single to second base.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Today's game was the first against Wisconsin-Whitewater since 2015.
- Tufts has won the last two meetings against Endicott.
- Prior to those matchups, the Gulls defeated the Jumbos twice, both times Tufts was nationally ranked (4/13/22, W, 4-2, No. 11 | 4/2/19, W, 2-0, No. 23).
