WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Endicott softball team fell to Hartford, 4-1 and 5-2, in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Hartford Softball Field.
GAME ONE: Hartford 4, Endicott 1
WP (6-2): Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) — 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K
LP (5-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 2.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
With Hartford leading 1-0 in the top of the third, second baseman Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) drilled a double to left field that plated Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.).
From there, the Hawks were able to regain the lead via two homers later in the contest, grabbing a stranglehold on game one. The Gulls offense was unable to muster any further run production following the third inning, falling by a final score of 4-1.
GAME TWO: Hartford 5, Endicott 2
WP (5-2): Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) — 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
LP (5-3): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Hartford grabbed another early lead via a first-inning RBI double, but the following three innings were a stalemate, scoreless from both sides. The Hawks eventually broke through with a four-run fourth inning, expanding their lead to 5-0 after four full.
The Gulls offense showed some late life, as Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) plated Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) with a groundout in the sixth inning and Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) drove in Riley Gamache with an RBI single in the seventh. However, the five-run deficit proved to be too much to overcome, as they fell by a final score of 5-2.
