Four Gulls Earn All-New England Honors

Four Gulls Earn All-New England Honors

May 14, 2007

BEVERLY, MA - Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, MA/Triton) and three other Gulls were named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All Region team.

Sargent, a first team All-CCC selection, was named to the All-New England first team at catcher after leading Endicott to a 31-12 season and its fifth straight CCC title and NCAA appearance.

The sophomore catcher led the team in nearly every offensive category, hitting .400 (48-for-120) with 40 runs scored, 15 doubles, nine home runs and 50 RBI. Sargent also posted a .497 on-base percentage while working 27 walks.

Sargent was joined as an All-New England selection by teammates Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill), Sarah Spaziano (Norton, MA/Norton) and Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) who were all named to the All-New England Third Team.

Danielle Sargent posted the second highest batting average on the team at .387 (48-of-124), scoring 41 runs with 10 doubles, six home runs and 34 runs batted in. The leftfielder proved to be one to the teams most clutch performers over the weekend as she hit .364 (4-for-11) with two runs scored and four RBI in the Gulls three NCAA Tournament games.

Freshmen shortstop Sarah Spaziano, who also joined Meghan and Danielle Sargent as All-CCC first teamers, was an at-large selection to the All-New England third team after a stellar rookie campaign. Spaziano hit .315 (41-for-130) with 31 runs scored, two doubles, three triples and 19 RBI. The Norton, MA native was a perfect nine for nine in stolen base attempts and played great defense at the hot corner making just two errors in 43 games for a .981 fielding percentage.

Junior designated player Rachel Pearson was once again one of the most feared batters in the CCC as she helped drive the Gulls potent offense. Pearson hit .339 (43-for-127) with 22 runs scored, seven doubles, eight home runs and 42 RBI while following Meghan Sargent in the order.

The Gulls posted one of their most successful seasons to date with a 31-12 overall record and a 20-3 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls also picked up a win in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Tournament as they topped Keene State College 8-4 in a first round match up. The win was the first for the Blue and Green in NCAA Tournament play since 2005.
