BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College softball team celebrated senior day and wrapped up its 2007 regular season with a pair of wins over Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Salve Regina University, 1-0 and 14-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Gulls managed just one run in the first game but it would stand up as the game turned out to be a pitchers duel between Jen Elwell (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech) and Seahawks hurler Sarah Jakiela (Meriden, CT/Francis T. Maloney).

Elwell (9-2) pitched a complete game one hit, shut out, and picked up her ninth win of the year by going seven innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out nine Seahawk batters. Jakiela went seven innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven for Salve Regina.

Endicott scored the games lone run in the bottom of the first inning when Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) hit a led off double, then advanced to third on fly ball hit deep into foul territory by Jenna Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton). McGinn came around to score on an RBI single by Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill) giving EC the 1-0 lead and eventual game winning run.

The Blue and Green would jump out to an early lead again in game two as they touched Jakiela for six runs in the first, forcing the Seahawks to go to the bullpen after just one-third of an inning. Meghan Sargent has been very impressive for the Gulls all year long and Sunday afternoon proved to be no different as she hit a two RBI double that drove in Danielle Sargent and Lazar putting EC up 2-0 just four batters into the game.

Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) followed up with an RBI double of her own, driving the ball deep to left center and allowing Meghan Sargent to score easily from second.

Paula McGinn broke the game wide open later in the first inning when she hit a sinking line drive past sprawling SRU centerfielder Caitlin Poplawski (New Britain, CT/Northwest Catholic) for a bases clearing three RBI triple, she then took advantage of Salve Regina's lackadaisical fielding and sprinted home to put EC up 8-0. Endicott would tack on three runs in both the second and third innings to take a commanding 14-0 lead.

Senior Robyn Savitske (8-5) picked up her eighth win of the year but had her shut out bid broken by a fourth inning solo home run off the bat of Kristen Danubio (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock). Despite the homer Savitske did not disappoint the senior day crowd. The four year starter tossed a complete game three-hitter allowing just one run while striking out five.

Pearson (3-for-3) and McGinn (1-for-2) each drove in four runs while Meghan Sargent and Sarah Spaziano (Norton, MA/Norton) knocked in two runs a piece. Jenna Lazar went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Danielle Sargent was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

The Gulls wrap up their regular season with a 27-10 overall record and a 19-3 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott sits tied with Roger Williams for the top spot in the CCC but with the Hawks holding the head-to-head advantage the Blue and Green will play as the number two seed in the up coming conference tournament. EC will host a first round tournament game on Tuesday May 1, 2007 in Beverly the time and opponent are still to be determined, stay tuned to ecgulls.com for updates.
