Final Stats

BRISTOL, RI - The Endicott College softball team opened up its Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule with a pair of losses to the Roger Williams University Hawks on Tuesday night.

EC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one but RWU would score three runs in the third and two in the fifth to take the first game of the double-header, 5-2. EC's two runs came in the top of the first when Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) singled, driving in Sarah Spaziano (Norton, MA/Norton) from third. Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, MA/Triton Regional) would also single and come around to score on a Maria Mangine (Lockport, NY/Lockport) ground out.

Robyn Savitske (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) went six innings allowing five runs on six hits, striking out one and walking two, dropping her record to 2-3 on the year. EC out hit the Hawks 8-6 but could only manage two runs off of Kristin Foss (Concord, NH/Concord), who went seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out three.

Meghan Sargent went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Rachel Pearson also went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Gulls offense in game one.

The Hawks got the best of the Gulls again in the nightcap riding a four run fourth inning to a 5-4 win. Endicott once again took an early lead as CCC Freshmen of the Week Jenna Lazar () led the game off with a single. Lazar advanced to second on a sacrifice from Spaziano and would come around to score on an RBI single from Meghan Sargent.

Roger Williams answered back with a run in the second inning and then put four on the board in the fourth to make it a 5-1 game. Casey Shanley (Billerica, MA/Billerica) cut the Hawks lead to three with a solo homer in the sixth and Sargent and Pearson would add RBI in the seventh to pull the game to within one but the Gulls could not cash in with the bases loaded and one out falling 5-4 in game two.

Jen Elwell (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech) went six innings for Endicott giving up five runs on four hits while striking out four and walking two. Meghan Sargent paced Endicott once again as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Lazar also played well for EC going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

The Gulls fall to 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the CCC after having their six game winning streak snapped at the hands of RWU. EC next heads to Waltham, MA for a double-header with Regis College on Saturday March 31, before returning home for a double-header with the University of New England on Sunday April 1.
