BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College softball team split a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader against Curry College taking the first game, 3-2 but falling 6-1 in game two.

Endicott pulled out a come from behind win in the first game of the twin bill despite taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. EC opened the scoring on a Jenna Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton) RBI single that drove in designated player Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, MA/Triton) from third.

Curry rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth sparked by Kimberly Sturgis (Saugus, MA/Saugus) who led the inning off with a single and eventually came around to score. The Colonels got their second run on a bizarre play at the plate as Diane Gilbody (Quincy, MA/Quincy) struck out trying to check her swing, the ball then got by Gulls catcher Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) allowing Jessica Riddle (Billerica, MA/Billerica) to score from third.

The Gulls entered the bottom of the sixth trailing by a run with the heart of their order coming to the plate. Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill) led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out by Meghan Sargent. That brought up Pearson who hit a two run blast off the rock wall in left center to give the Gulls a 3-2 lead. Jen Elwell then retired three of the four batters she faced in the seventh to pick up her eight win of the year.

Elwell (8-2) pitched her tenth complete game of the year going seven innings allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven Colonels. Pearson's two RBI led the Gulls to the win as she went 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and the deciding two run home run.

The Gulls did not fair as well in game two however as Curry jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back rolling to a 6-1 win. Endicott's lone run came in the fourth inning after Meghan Sargent, Rachel Pearson and Sarah Spaziano (Norton, MA/Norton) hit back-to-back-to-back singles loading the bases with one out. Maria Mangine (Lockport, NY/Lockport) hit a two out RBI single into centerfield scoring Sargent, making it a 4-1 game.

Curry starter Katie O'Neill (Braintree, MA/Fontbonne Academy) kept the Gulls in check the entire game as she went seven innings giving up seven hits but allowing just one run and surrendering one walk while striking out five.

Robyn Savitske (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) dropped to 7-5 on the year as she was tagged with the loss going four innings and giving up four earned runs on seven hits and two home runs while striking out five. Jackie Collier (Swampscott, MA/Bishop Fenwick) pitched three innings in relief giving up two hits, walking two and striking out two while slowing down the Colonel offense.

EC moves its record to 25-10 overall and 17-3 in the CCC while Curry stands at 25-13 overall and 15-5 in the conference. The Gulls play their final regular season game Sunday April, 29 when they host Salve Regina for a CCC doubleheader starting at noon.
