BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College softball team picked up a pair of wins over Commonwealth Coast Conference rival University of New England, 4-0 and 12-2, in a double-header on Sunday afternoon in Beverly.

EC jumped out to an early lead in game one when Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, MA/Triton) hit a three run home run off of the rock face in left center to put Endicott up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) wasted no time making her presence in the lineup felt as she doubled in Lynsey Vacchino (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake) in the fourth to give the Gulls a 4-0 lead.

Endicott got four runs but one was all Robyn Savitske (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) needed as she tossed a complete game, four hit shutout. Savitske (3-3) did not allow a base-runner until the fourth inning and struck out a season high 12 batters while walking just two.

Meghan Sargent finished one-for-three with a home run and three RBI while Vacchino went 2-for-3 with a run scored and McGinn went 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

The Gulls kept the momentum going into the second game, parlaying it into a 12-2, five inning win. Endicott scored two runs in the second inning as Vacchino worked a bases loaded walk, plating Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard), Danielle Sargent then drove in Casey Shanley (Billerica, MA/Billerica) with a sacrifice fly to right.

EC started to pull away in the third adding three more runs when Maria Mangine (Lockport, NY/Lockport) hit a two RBI single and Shanley stole home on a botched 2-4-2 pick-off attempt. The Gulls put the game away with a seven run fourth inning, capped off by a grand slam from Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill).

Jen Elwell (Tewksbury, MA/Shawsheen Tech.) picked up her third win of the season going five innings giving up two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.

Danielle Sargent finished the game 1-for-2 with five RBI and a run scored, while Shanley went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, Mangine also played well going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.

The wins improve EC's overall record to 11-5 and 4-2 in the CCC. The Gulls return to action on Wednesday when they head to Henniker, NH to take on New England College in a CCC double-header. Endicott returns home on Tuesday April 10, with another CCC double-header as the Gulls face Anna Maria and 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
