Box Score

BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College Softball team dropped a non-conference game to Babson College, 5-1 on Monday afternoon. The loss was the first of the year for the Gulls at home who had gone unbeaten in their previous twelve games on the friendly confines of the EC campus.

Stacy Schlicht (Hillsborough, CA/Notre Dame) was able to keep the powerful Endicott offense at bay going six innings, allowing just one run on three hits while walking one and striking out ten batters. Despite the dominance of her pitching line the Gulls were able to get on the board first, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) worked a lead off walk then advanced all the way to third on a Jenna Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton) bunt single. McGinn would then come around to score as Lazar stole second base drawing a throw and allowing McGinn to slide safely home.

The Beavers responded with single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead but broke the game open in the fifth inning with three runs. Robyn Savitske (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) successfully retired the first two hitters of the inning and struck out Andrea Cartullo (Holbrook, MA/Cardinal Spellman) but the senior centerfielder reached first on a dropped third strike giving Babson an extra out. Courtney Thurston (Taunton, MA/Coyle Cassidy) followed up with a single and Alex Lazar (Milton, MA/Milton) drove them in with a three run home run to left putting the Beavers up 5-1.

The Gulls were unable to get anything going offensively as they managed just two hits over the final three innings of the game. Savitske (7-4) was tagged with her fourth loss of the year going five innings and giving up five runs on six hits while striking out five.

EC falls to 23-8 overall and will hit the road for another tough non-conference match up on Tuesday evening when the Gulls head to Medford, MA to play a double-header against the Tufts University Jumbos with a first pitch set for 3:30 pm. The blue and green play their final regular season games at home when they host Salve Regina (3:30 & 5:30 pm) on Friday and Curry College (12:00 & 2:00 pm) on Saturday.
