Men's Volleyball Earns Gritty Win Over Eastern Nazarene, 3-2

QUINCY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball team outlasted Eastern Nazarene, 3-2, by scores of 18-25, 30-28, 23-25, 26-24, and 15-12 in conference action on Tuesday night at the Lahue Athletic Center.

Rafa Robert (San Juan, Puerto Rico) notched a career-high 24 kills (.415) to help guide the Gulls to the victory. 

Mason Mallory (Playa del Rey, Calif.) also reached double digits in kills with 12, while Matt Cruz (Easton, Conn.) and Spencer Capps (Lake Bluff, Ill.) added nine and eight putaways, respectively, in the five-set thriller.

Meanwhile, Gavin Emenaker (Newton, Mass.) orchestrated the offense via a match-high 30 assists and tied Vance Mallory (Playa del Rey, Calif.) for the team-high in digs with six total. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Endicott is 9-0 all-time against Eastern Nazarene. 
  • Robert upped his game in every set going for two, five, six, six, and five kills, respectively.
  • His fifth set line featured an impressive five kills and zero errors on six swings.
  • Emenaker entered tonight's match coming off a career-high 25-assist performance against Sage (3/13; W, 3-0).
  • Tonight's match featured 48 ties and 15 lead changes (S1: 3-0 | S2: 14-5 | S3: 18-5 | S4: 10-4 | S5: 3-1).
  • At one point, the Gulls trailed 5-1 in the fifth set.
  • Brian Wightman (Las Vegas, Nev.) saw 22 of his 50 receptions correlate to kills.

Endicott (11-4, 3-0 NECC) hosts Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, March 19th at 1 PM. Eastern Nazarene (10-8, 1-2 NECC) travels to Nichols on Friday, March 18th at 7 PM.
