Beverly, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball team returned to .500 following a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) over visiting Daniel Webster in NECVA New England action on Friday night. The Gulls improve to 8-8 overall and 5-2 in divisional play after winning their second match in as many days. The Eagles stall at 4-5 (3-3).

Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) combined for 25 of the Gulls’ 45 kills on the night. Siden added a pair of digs and a solo block in the win, Endicott’s fifth straight over Daniel Webster dating back to 2008.

Junior setter Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) handed out a game-high 39 assists while classmate Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) paced the Gulls’ defensive effort with 16 digs.

The visitors were led by Joe Walz (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who tallied 10 and eight kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded 18 assists in the setback.

A Zeke Kubisch (Bethlehem, N.Y.) kill helped the hosts jump out to an early 7-1 lead in the game one. The Gulls never looked back and took the opener 25-11.

The Eagles bounced back in the early stages of game two and, after a Joe Walz kill, found themselves leading 6-2. Endicott scored six of the next seven points, including a pair of aces from Brandon Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.), to move ahead 8-7.

Game two remained close until a pair of attack errors by Daniel Webster put Endicott on top 20-17. Joshua Bruno (Andover, Mass.) served out the remaining five points to give the Gulls a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Eagles capitalized on three attack errors to begin game three and took a 9-4 lead. Endicott responded with a 6-0 run, highlighted by three kills from freshman Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.), to take a 10-9 lead.  The Gulls increased the lead by scoring ten of the next 13 points.

A late service error by Daniel Webster derailed any thoughts of a comeback as Endicott improved to 6-4 at home on the season.

The Gulls continue a lengthy home stretch when they play host to Elms on Monday (Jan. 21) at 4:00 pm. Daniel Webster is in action the day when it travels to Lasell for a non-conference matchup at 8:00 pm.
