Cambridge, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball took on Harvard University of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association on Friday evening, but lost to the Crimson 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19).

In the opening set, the Gulls took the first point following a solo block by Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) but Harvard would respond by taking the lead and stretching it to four points at 9-5 following an Endicott attack error and kills by Nick Madden (San Diego, Calif.) and Matt Jones (La Jolla, Calif.). The Blue and Green came back to tie the set at 12-12 after a service ace by Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.). The Crimson, however, relied on Jones to record five kills in the set to earn a 25-19 set win.

The second set resulted in the same fate for the Blue and Green, a 25-19 defeat. Gulls junior outside hitter Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) struck four kills in the set to lead the visitors. Harvard was very successful defensively at the net as the Crimson blocked five Endicott attacks after blocking six in the first set.

Endicott stormed back in the third set with a .350 hit percentage as a team, hitting 10 kills with only four errors. The Gulls saw sophomore Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) record three kills in the set, including the final point with an assist to Jeremy Schlosser. Endicott held on for the 25-21 third set win to pull within a point of the Crimson.

Harvard, however, denied Endicott the opportunity for a fifth set comeback with a 25-19 win. The Crimson held on despite a late rally by the Gulls who took four of five points when they were down 20-14. Harvard responded with a similar run, scoring four of the last five points to win the match.

Endicott’s leading attacker was Jeremy Siden who tallied 13 kills. He was completed by Matt Devendorf and Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.) who added nine and six kills, respectively. Jeremy Schlosser dished out 30 set assists and Siden led all players with 11 digs. Freshman Brandon Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) was a force at the net with two solo and four assisted blocks.

Harvard’s Matt Jones recorded 20 kills and Chris Gibbons (Yorba Linda, Calif.) added 16 kills. Rob Lothman (Glendale, Mo.) had 40 assists. Dan Schreff (Cos Cob, Conn.) had a team-high seven digs. Harvard had 19 blocks as a team with Jones recording three solo and five assisted blocks of his own.

Endicott will travel to Elms College on February 3rd for a 7:00 pm NECVA New England match up.
