Endicott blows past Gordon, 7-2

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College defeated cross-town rival Gordon, 7-2, on Thursday, cementing its spot in The Commonwealth Coast Conference postseason tournament. The Gulls close out the regular season with an 11-5 overall record and a 6-3 mark in TCCC play, good enough to earn the No. 4 seed and an opening-round home match against Western New England College on Saturday afternoon.

Endicott got off to a hot start in its season finale against the Fighting Scots, sweeping doubles competition, 3-0. Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) defeated Blake Larson and Greg Zini (Fiskdale, Mass.), 8-4. Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and Scott Kitchen (Norwell, Mass.) kept the momentum rolling with an 8-2 win, while Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) downed Scott Pichard (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Dan Cormier (Ipswich, Mass.), 8-5.

In singles play, Dan Murray was unstoppable as he zipped his way to a quick and decisive, 6-0, 6-0, win over Blake Larson. After a tough first set, Schoen rebounded to defeat Greg Zini, 2-6, 6-2, 10-5. Scott Teller and Marc Maloney also notched wins for the Gulls. The Fighting Scots got their two singles wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 hole, as Scott Pichard got past Darcy Wiart (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Dan Cormier scored a, 6-1, 6-1, win over Nate Buell (Westfield, Mass.).

Endicott will play host to Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals on Saturday on South Campus. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Gulls and the Golden Bears finished the regular season with an identical 6-3 TCCC record, however Endicott owned the tiebreaker as the Blue and Green edged WNEC, 5-4, on March 25th.
