Gulls win second straight, swing past Hastings

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Endicott College erased a 3-0 doubles deficit to squeak out a win over Hastings College (Neb.), 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon in Melbourne, Florida. The win moves the Gulls to 3-2 on the year and completes their spring trip with a 2-1 mark.

The Broncos bucked their way to a quick 3-0 advantage as Hastings was able to capture all three doubles contests. Justin Nguyen (Shelton, Conn.) and Darcy Wiart (Queensbury, N.Y.) put up the strongest fight for the Gulls, as the duo pushed Jason Garritsen (Hastings, Neb.) and Matt Kern (Hastings, Neb.) to an 8-6 score.

The Gulls rebounded by thriving in the singles matches, taking five of six to earn the 5-4 win. Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) upped his season record to 3-2 as he posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Wil Hotz (Grand Island, Neb.). Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Az.) also coasted for the Gulls, dominating Toby Martinez, 6-0, 6-1. Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.), Gabriel Moraga (Marlborough, Conn.) and Scott Kitchen (Norwell, Mass.) all brought earned victories for Endicott.

The win pushes the Gulls above .500 for the first time this season, as Endicott has won two-straight to improve to 3-2. Endicott will look to up its winning streak to three as the Gulls fly back to Beverly for a TCCC showdown with Western New England College on Tuesday afternoon (March 25) at 3:30 p.m.
