Endicott coasts past Southern Maine, 8-1

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College men's tennis team made quick work of the visiting University of Southern Maine, flying past the Huskies, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts. The win marks the Gulls' sixth-straight, by far the longest run in program history.

Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) got the Gulls started as they downed Josh Warren (Hermon, Maine) and Derek Stevenson (Raymond, Maine) in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-5. Southern Maine notched its first and only victory of the afternoon in the second doubles contest, as Steve Lent (Sharon, N.H.) and Adam Mitchell (Windham, Maine) defeated Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and Gabriel Moraga (Marlborough, Mass.), 8-2. Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) gave EC a 2-1 lead entering singles play, downing Jack Cowie (Scarborough, Maine) and Stefan Kelly (Biddeford, Maine), 8-0.

The Blue and Green were simply dominant in singles competition, taking all six matches from the visiting Huskies. Murray took his match, 7-5, 6-3; while Schoen won 6-3, 7-6. The closest match of the afternoon was a win by Devon Locke, as he held off Steve Lent, 6-7, 7-1, 12-10.

With the win, Endicott improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The loss sets the University of Southern Maine back to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Little East. Endicott returns to action on Saturday as it steps back into conference play with a 12:00 p.m. showdown with TCCC foe Wentworth in Boston.
