Edelmann Named Men's Tennis Coach

Jan. 8, 2008

BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser has announced the hiring of Richard Edelmann, Jr. as the new head men's tennis coach effective February 1, 2008.

Edelmann comes to Endicott after a three year stint as the head coach at Amherst College. Under his leadership, the Lord Jeffs made the NCAA Division III Tournament round of 16 three straight times. Last season, Edelmann guided Amherst to a 14-6 overall record to earn the NESCAC Coach of the Year award.

Edelmann, a graduate of Saint Michael's College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, previously served as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Director of Tennis from 2000-2003 at Division II Merrimack College. Richard also held the Director of Tennis position at the Florida Institute of Technology.

A life member of the United States Tennis Association, Edelmann will maintain his position as Director of Tennis at the Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover, Mass. Prior to Indian Ridge, Edelmann was the Head Tennis Professional at Salem Country Club from 1995-97.

"Rick is a noted professional in both the club circuit and in college tennis," said Hiser. "He has the kind of experience that will build bridges between the two industries and our athletes will flourish under his leadership. We are very pleased to have coach Edelmann with us."

Edlemann inherits an Endicott men's tennis team that posted a program-best 9-9 (5-3 TCCC) record in 2007. The Gulls notched their first-ever postseason victory with a 5-4 win over Curry College to advance to the TCCC semifinals last year.
