BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Western New England University in Hempstead Stadium on Saturday night.
The Golden Bears' Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) picked up his 16th goal of the season at the 32:17 mark to put Western New England up 1-0.
At the 60:38 mark, Bobby Ivatts (Walpole, Mass.) took a penalty kick for the Gulls and recorded his first career goal to tie the contest at 1-1.
Both teams continued to pressure offensively throughout the remainder of regulation and in the first and second overtimes, but neither was able to find the go-ahead goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) made four saves to improve to 3-1-2 on the year.
- The Gulls held the 18-11 shot advantage.
- Endicott recorded five corners to Western New England's three.
- Dario Neukom (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Rieley Hoffman (Watertown, N.Y.), and Jamie Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) paced the offense with three shots each.
- The previous meeting between the two schools came during the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals. That contest also ended in a double overtime tie but the Golden Bears advanced in the tournament on penalty kicks.
FOR THE FOES
- Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) shifted to 4-1-1 on the season with the tie.
- Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Chris Manousos (Wethersfield, Conn.), and T. Remillard led the offense with two shots each.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (6-1-2, 2-0-1) hosts Babson for a nonconference matchup on Tuesday, October 3 at 7 PM. Western New England (7-2-1, 2-0-1) travels to Clark University for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, October 4.
