SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The No. 20 nationally ranked Endicott men's lacrosse team defeated Springfield, 11-9, on Friday night at Stagg Field.
Colt Green (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) led the Gulls with five goals, while Guerin Favreau (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) had six points (one goal and five assists).
Tommy Tyksinski (Guilderland, N.Y.) two tallies as Cam Fernandez (Mendham, N.J.), Jack Fiorillo (Mineola, N.Y.), and Curtis Redd (Amherst, N.H.) all added one goal apiece.
Defensively, Nick DiSalvo (Narragansett, R.I.) tied a season-high causing five turnovers and tied for a team-high with five groundballs. In between the pipes, Christopher Tillotson (Monroe, Conn.) stopped 10 shots in the second half to improve his record to 4-0 on the season. Teagan Alexander (Foxboro, Mass.) added seven saves in the first half. At the faceoff "X", Thomas Barker (Needham, Mass.) went 13-24.
Following a first half in which the two teams finished tied at five apiece, Green gave the Gulls a 6-5 lead 28 seconds into the third quarter. His goal was answered by a two-goal Springfield run to give the Pride a 7-6 lead at the 12:43 mark. Tillotson kept the Pride from growing their lead over the next 10 minutes as he made six saves before Green tied the game again with 2:33 to play in the third quarter. A Fernandez tally regained Endicott's lead late in the third as they headed to the fourth quarter up 8-7.
Springfield wouldn't go down without a fight as they tied the game again at 10:34 mark of the fourth quarter but Tyksinski's man up goal gave Endicott the lead for good with 9:17 to play off a feed from Favreau. The defense protected the one-goal lead again as Jack Daoust (Westport, Mass.), DiSalvo, and Favreau all caused Springfield turnovers to go along with forcing the Pride into consecutive failed clears.
Tyksinski's second goal at two minute mark gave Endicott their biggest lead of the game at 10-8. The Pride got one back just 57 seconds later but never touched the ball again, as the Gulls won the next faceoff setting up Favreau's goal and sealing the 11-9 victory.
