Field hockey wraps up 2010 campaign
Endicott’s field hockey team ended its season in Bridgewater, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 13 with a 4-1 loss to Plymouth State. The Gulls finalized their record at 11-9 after back-to-back postseason losses in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournaments. Despite the losses, Endicott did recognize great successes and triumphs throughout the season.

One of Endicott’s most memorable games from the 2010 season came against UMass-Dartmouth. The Gulls traveled to North Dartmouth, Massachusetts for an under-the-lights showdown with the NCAA-ranked Corsairs.  Endicott came out on top, 2-1, and came home with another early season win.

The Blue and Green showcased another standout performance at in the home finale against Wellesley College. After seventy minutes of nearly flawless team chemistry and game play, the Gulls blanked the Wellesley College Blue, 3-0, to pick up a memorable victory on Senior Day.

Endicott will graduate seven seniors but will benefit from the return of six starters for the 2011 campaign. The Gulls also hope to bring back offensive force Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.), who was sidelined this season with a knee injury.

Two of the top-three goal scorers will be back on the front line in 2011 for head coach Jodi Cipolla.  Hannah Thornberg (Oakland, Maine) and Taylor Matties (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) recorded 29 and 22 points, respectively, by the end of their 2010 run.

The third member of the high-scoring trio was senior Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.), who tallied 27 points and was named First Team All-TCCC.  Classmate Delia McDermott, a defensive standout during the season, garnered Second Team recognition along with the sophomore Thornberg.

When asked to reflect on the past season, Coach Cipolla said, “Our final record doesn’t reflect the talent that this team possessed.  We had some great games down the stretch and made a significant mark regionally within a really tough non-conference schedule.  We had great leaders within our senior class whom we will greatly miss, but also attribute them with our future success thanks to the groundwork that they have laid within our program.”
