Reid nets overtime winner to lift field hockey past Gordon

Wenham, Mass. – \#Joanne Reid\#’s (Clarksville, Md.) goal just over two minutes into overtime capped a second half rally and propelled the Endicott field hockey team to a 5-4 win over host Gordon on Saturday afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play. The Gulls improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Scots fall to 3-10 overall (2-3 TCCC).  

Gordon’s Samantha Neverett (Athol, Mass.) scored twice in the opening five minutes to give the hosts and early 2-0 lead. The Scots’ Veronica Pierce (West Hartford, Conn.) scored unassisted in the 7th minute to increase the lead to three. 

Endicott’s leading scorer \#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine) cut the deficit to two with a 21st minute goal. The senior Reid tallied the assist on the play.

With less than four minutes remaining in the opening half, \#Melissa Enright\# (York Beach, Maine) recorded an unassisted goal. Despite giving up three early strikes, the Gulls entered the break trailing by just one. 

Neverett completed the hat trick 13 minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal to put Gordon up 4-2. 

The Gulls’ \#Taylor Matties\# (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) answered 17 seconds later after a feed from Alexandra Parese ( ). 

Trailing by one with just seconds remaining in the game, Thornberg struck again to force overtime. The sophomore forward scored with 28 seconds left in regulation to knot the game at four. 

Endicott capitalized on the momentum and tallied the game winner 2:05 into the extra frame to stun the Scots.  

\#Lizetta Solarik\# (Carmel, N.Y.) picked up the win after making ten saves in the cage. The freshman allowed just one goal in 65:25 of action. 

The Gulls host TCCC-rival Nichols on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.  Gordon travels to Salve Regina on the same day for a 4:00 pm start.
