Beverly, Mass. –  The Endicott field hockey team celebrated senior day with a 3-0 win over visiting Wellesley College on Tuesday afternoon.   The Gulls scored twice in the opening seven minutes and held the Blue without a shot in the opening half to pick up the non-conference victory in the team’s final home game of the regular season.  Endicott improves to 11-7 overall while Wellesley drops to 5-10 on the season.

 

Endicott dominated the first half, outshooting Wellesley 12-0 in the frame while finding the net twice.  \#Taylor Matties\# (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 5^th minute after collecting a rebound and depositing a shot just inside the left post. 

 

Two minutes later, Matties intercepted an errant pass near the top of the circle, creating a two-on-one break with \#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine).  Thornberg took the feed near the left post and beat Wellesley keeper Sarina Sawyer (Wilmette, Ill.) to double the lead. 

 

The Endicott offense threatened to blow the game open with 10 more shots in the opening stanza but were held in check by eight saves from Sawyer.  Through the first 35 minutes, the Gulls held a 12-0 advantage in shots and led 2-0 on the scoreboard.

 

With just over ten minutes remaining in the game, Matties and Thornberg hooked up again to put the Gulls on top 3-0. 

 

Shots were even in the second half at nine apiece.  Sawyer made four stops during that time to finish the game with 11.  Endicott goalie \#Taylor Teixeira\# (Exeter, N.H.) made four stops, all in the second half, to pick up her 9^th win of the year.

 

The Gulls return to action on Saturday when they travel to Western New England College (7-10, 4-4 TCCC) for a 1:00 showdown in the opening round of the TCCC Tournament.

 

The Blue travel to Clark at Saturday at 1:00 pm.
