Beverly, Mass. – \#Taylor Matties\# (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and \#Alexandra Parese\# (Wilton, Conn.) each scored a goal as the Endicott field hockey team downed previously unbeaten SUNY New Paltz in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Gulls improve to 2-1 on the year while the Hawks drop to 2-1.

Matties put the hosts on the board in the early going, tallying her first goal of the season at the 4:02 mark. \#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine) created the opportunity when her shot from the right side of the goal was deflected by goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) right to the sophomore forward. The goal was the first goal of the season allowed by Pjetri, snapping a 105 minute shutout streak.

Parese provided insurance goal at 43:41 of the second half. Again it was Thornberg who created the chance, this time taking the ball down the left side of the field and finding a wide open Parese in front of the net. The goal was the second of the season for the junior forward.

SUNY New Paltz responded by ratcheting up the pressure on the Endicott goal. With just over five minutes remaining in the game, the Hawks earned a penalty corner and made it count. Maryana Organidis (Belford, N.J.) fed Caitlin Ryder (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), who cut the lead in half with a well-placed shot.

The Blue and Orange earned a pair of penalty corners in the closing minutes, but could not capitalize. Freshman goalie \#Taylor Teixeira\# played all 70 minutes in goal for the Gulls, recording four saves. Pjetri went the distance for the visitors and registered six saves.

With the win, Endicott improves to 6-1 in home openers since 2004. They will take on The Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Anna Maria at 10:00 Saturday morning in Paxton, Massachusetts. The Hawks travel to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore the same day.
