Boxscore

Beverly, Mass. – \#Melissa Enright\#’s (York Beach, Maine) goal in the 67th minute broke a scoreless tie and powered the Endicott field hockey team to a 1-0 win over visiting Salem State in a non-conference matchup at the North Athletic Field. The Gulls improve to 6-2 on the season while Salem State stalls at 2-3.

Enright’s game winner was set up by \#Cara Hanrahan\# (Franklin, Tenn.) and \#Lindsey Mills\# (Arlington, Mass.). Mills played a penalty corner to the top of the circle where Hanrahan placed the ball squarely on Enright’s stick. The sophomore forward’s second goal of the season put the Gulls on top with just under four minutes to play.

Despite a number of opportunities, neither side was able to find the net in the opening half. The Gulls held a 12-8 advantage in shots in the opening stanza, but were denied by the Vikings’ Jessica McKenna (Rowley, Mass.) six times.

Midway through the second half, the visitors threatened to take the lead after earning three consecutive penalty corners. Sarah Quimby’s (Turner, Maine) shot was blocked by the Endicott defense before sophomore goalkeeper \#Taylor Teixeira\# (Exeter, N.H) denied Kaitlyn Aronian’s (Chelmsford, Mass.) attempt.

With overtime looming, the Gulls finally put a tally up on the board. The assist was Hanrahan’s third of the season and the first of the year for the senior Mills. The goal broke a 136:36 scoreless drought for the Blue and Green after being shut out by the TCCC’s Western New England on Saturday.

Teixeira made four saves in the win and improves to 5-2 individually. Salem State’s McKenna made eight stops in the loss.

The Gulls return to action on Sunday when they take to the road for a 1:00 pm showdown with Maine-Farmington. The Vikings host a Little East Conference match with Fitchburg State on Saturday.
