Field hockey releases 2011 schedule

Field hockey releases 2011 schedule
The Endicott field hockey team has released their schedule for the 2011 season as the Gulls will play each of their TCCC opponents twice both at home and on the road. The Blue and Green have also stacked their schedule with some of region’s top non-conference field hockey talent as Endicott plays in search of their first conference championship in program history.

2011 Endicott Field Hockey Schedule

Season Opener

Endicott opens up their 2011 schedule with a September 1st road game against 2010 NEWMAC Champions Babson College. After winning 6-1 over MIT to capture the NEWMAC title, Babson reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Bowdoin College. The Beavers edged Husson College 4-3 in round one before ending their season with a 16-6 record. The Gulls and Beavers met in last year’s season opener as well with Babson taking the game 5-2 at home.

Giants of the Little East

Endicott will face three Little East teams this year that combined to go 41-24 overall and 26-7 in conference play.

The Gulls welcome Plymouth State University, a team they played twice in 2010, to Beverly for Endicott’s home opener. Last season, Plymouth State went 14-7, suffered an overtime loss to Bridgewater State University in the Little East semifinals, and took another heart-breaking loss to Bridgewater State in the ECAC Championship Final. Endicott kicked off their 2010 season with a home 3-1 win over the Panthers, but in the ECAC Semifinals, Plymouth State exacted revenge on the Gulls with a 4-1 triumph on neutral grounds.

On September 14th, Endicott travels down to UMass Dartmouth to face the Corsairs who won the Little East Championship in 2010. UMass Dartmouth bested Bridgewater State University 3-1 in the title game and went on to the NCAA Tournament. The Corsairs, however, ran into the \#14 ranked Cortland State who ended UMass Dartmouth’s season with a 3-0 shutout. Last season’s meeting between the Gulls and the Corsairs resulted in a 2-1 victory for Endicott.

Endicott will also travel to Bridgewater State University on October 13th to face a team they beat 3-2 last season. Last year’s win was the final win of a season-high five-game win streak for the Blue and Green. As mentioned before, Bridgewater State lost to UMass Dartmouth in the 2010 Little East Championship and went on to the ECAC New England Championship but lost to Plymouth State.

Taking on the Champs

Last year’s TCCC Champions, the University of New England, roll into Endicott’s North Field on October 15th in a crucial late-season match up.  The Nor’easters won the conference title after a 3-0 shutout of New England College to get into the NCAA Tournament. They lost to ninth-ranked The College of New Jersey in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 4-0, ending their 2010 campaign at 13-7 overall. UNE went 6-2 in conference play during the regular season, including a narrow 4-3 win over the Gulls at home. With the new TCCC scheduling format, the Gulls and Nor’easters will also play earlier in the season on September 17th up in Biddeford, Maine.
