North Dartmouth, Mass. – \#Alexandra Parese\# (Wilton, Conn.) assisted on the first goal of the game then added one of her own to break a 1-1 tie and lift Endicott field hockey past UMass-Dartmouth in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Cressy Field. The win marks the fourth straight for the Gulls, who improve to 4-1 on the season (1-0 TCCC). The Corsairs drop to 3-2 with the loss.
\#Hannah Thornberg\# (Oakland, Maine) opened the scoring in the 42nd minute on a feed from Parese. UMass-Dartmouth knotted the game at one after Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, Mass.) took advantage of a loose ball in front of the net. Parese’s game winner came less than ten minutes later and propelled the visitors to the road win.
Sophomore Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass.) had an opportunity to put the Corsairs on the board in the opening minute of the game, but her shot attempt trickled wide right of the goal. The rest of the first half featured back-and-forth play from both squads, with neither side able to find the net.
Thornberg (Oakland, Maine) opened the scoring six minutes into the second half. The sophomore forward took a pass from Parese and fired a shot past Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, R.I.), giving Endicott a 1-0 advantage.
The Corsairs evened the score after senior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, Mass.) gathered a loose ball off the stick of senior defender Becca Festinger (Greenfield, Mass.) and snuck a shot past Endicott goalkeeper \#Taylor Teixeira\# (Exeter, N.H.). Kinchla’s goal made it 1-1 with 23:26 remaining in the game.
The Gulls answered less than ten minutes later. Following a failed corner attempt, sophomore midfielder \#Cassie DeSimone\# (Reading, Mass.) found Parese open on the left side and delivered her a crisp pass which Parese knocked past Gallo, providing the game-winning goal with just over 15 minutes to play. The goal was the third of the season for the junior forward while DeSimone is credited with her first assist of the season.
Teixeira made six stops in the win and improved to 3-1 for the Blue and Green. Kelsey Gallo recorded six saves in the loss.
Endicott will return to action on Thursday when it hosts Bridgewater State. Dartmouth plays host to Plymouth State on Saturday.
