NORTON, Mass. - The Endicott men's and women's tennis teams visiting Wheaton (Mass.) to face off against the Lyons in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.  The women saw freshman Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) win #6 singles to score the match-winning fifth point in a 5-4 win for the Gulls while the men were swept as their record fell to 8-6.

After taking two out of three doubles matches, the Gulls women's tennis squad saw Wheaton take the first two singles matches to go up 3-2.  Wins at #3 and #4 singles, however, gave Endicott back the lead and Newman completed road victory with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 straight-set win over her #6 singles opponent to give the Blue and Green the deciding fifth point.

Senior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) edged their #2 doubles opponents 8-6 to give Endicott their first point of the match and shortly thereafter, sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) teamed up to win 8-4 at the #3 doubles position.

Trailing 3-2 in singles play, Heacox and fellow sophomore Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) won in straight sets in their #3 and #4 singles flights to put the Gulls on top 4-3.  Heacox won 6-3, 6-3 and Egbert won 6-1, 6-1.  Needing one more point for the win, Newman claimed her first singles match of the season to deliver the victory.

In the men's match, Wheaton took all three doubles matches and all six doubles matches in a dominant home victory over Endicott.  Gulls senior captain Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.) played a tightly contested #3 singles match against his Lyons opponent, dropping the first set 6-7 before taking set two 7-5.  In the third set to 10 games, Cohen nearly missed out on the win by falling 11-9.

The women's team is off until Thursday, April 25th when they visit Salem State in their final tune before the NCAA DIII Tournament in the second week of May.  The men's team hosts Wentworth on Wednesday at 3:30 pm in CCC action.
