Women's Tennis opens 2012 with victory over Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Endicott women's tennis team kicked off their 2012-13 season with a 7-2 win over non-conference foe Colby-Sawyer on Friday afternoon, marking the first win forate Gulls under first year head coach Jeremy Howard.

Endicott sophomore Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) lost the first set 6-3, but rallied to win the next two 6-4 and 10-8 to defeat junior Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) at No. 1 singles. Junior Emilee Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Colby-Sawyer freshman Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.).

 

At No. 3 singles, Endicott sophomore Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) defeated freshman Charlotte Horton (South Hamilton, Mass.), 6-2 and 6-1. Sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) needed a tie break in the first set to defeat Colby-Sawyer senior Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) 7-6 (3), 6-1.

 

Colby-Sawyer's Donna Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) earned the lone singles point for the Chargers with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over senior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) at No. 5 singles. Endicott's Annie Gluskin (Duxbury, Mass.) defeated sophomore Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.

 

Colby-Sawyer duo Toffey and Lincoln earned a point for the Chargers with a 9-7 win over Egbert and Martel at No. 1 doubles. Cloutier and Pinciaro defeated Ramsay and Gordon 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Heacox and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) earned an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Horton and Tkachenko.

 

Endicott stays on the road with an away match at Wellesley tomorrow at 1:00 pm
