Endicott wins second spring match, 8-1 over Springfield

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team continued their spring schedule in preparation for the 2013 NCAA DIII Tournament with a home win over Springfield 8-1 at the South Campus Courts. The Gulls are now 16-3 overall and have eight days off until their next tune up on Tuesday, April 16th at Wheaton (Mass.).

Endicott swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches over their Springfield opponents to win their second straight spring match.  Springfield (6-9) next visits Rhode Island College on Thursday, April 11th for a 4:00 pm match in Providence, Rhode Island. 

Endicott's top flighted doubles duo of sophomore Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and sophomore Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) won 8-0 followed an 8-2 victory for junior Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) and senior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) at #2 doubles and an 8-1 victory for sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.).

Egbert started off singles play with a straight set 6-0, 6-1 win over her Pride opposition, but Springfield got a point back at the top singles position as senior Samantha Carney (Franklin, Mass.) took set one 6-3 over Cloutier before winning the point by retirement. 

The Gulls rebounded by taking #5 singles 6-2, 6-4 behind a strong performance by senior Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset, Mass.), a 6-2, 6-2 win for Martel at #2 singles, and a hard-fought #3 singles triumph for Heacox who took a first set tiebreaker 7-2 before claiming set two 6-3.
