Heacox and Potter take home Athlete of the Week honors for CCC title winners

CCC Athletes of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) become Endicott's first CCC Athlete of the Week award recipients in 2012 two days after the Gulls captured their second straight conference championship and their third in program history.

The Blue and Green upset the top seed Nichols for the second season in-a-row, defeating the Bison 5-1 behind a clean sweep in doubles action followed by gritty wins at the #4 and #3 singles positions to close out the match.  Endicott's success over the past week is due in large part to the effort put forth by Heacox and Potter on the court.

In Endicott's semifinal round win over Roger Williams, a stunning come-from-behind 5-4 triumph over the #3 seed, Heacox battled back in #4 singles after a first set loss to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.  The Gulls had trailed 4-1 in the match until the team's top four singles flights went in favor of Endicott.

In the championship match at Nichols, Heacox and Potter teamed up to win convincingly 8-1 over their Bison opponents, part of a 3-0 double sweep for Endicott.  In singles play, Heacox went on to earn a three-set 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 win at the #4 singles spot as the Blue and Green beat Nichols for the conference title.  Heacox wrapped up her fall season undefeated in singles play at 15-0 (7-0 CCC).
