Women’s Lacrosse Bests Coast Guard In Season Opener, 12-8

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team downed Coast Guard, 12-8, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Hempstead Stadium.

Alex Palermo (Reading, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls by scoring a career-high five goals. 

Katy Garvin (Mansfield, Mass.) and Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.) also found the back of the net twice, while Carly Pierce (Exeter, N.H.), Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn.), Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.), and buried solo tallies to round out the scoring. 

Defensively, Annabelle Gray (Londonderry, Vt) notched four draw controls, and one ground ball, and caused a turnover.

In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.) stopped seven shots to record the win (14th career). 

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • The Gulls are 4-2 in their last six season openers. 
  • Endicott improves to 2-0 all-time against Coast Guard.
  • Smith scored the first goals of their collegiate career. 
  • Palermo scored at least one goal in every quarter.
  • Down 7-6 in the third quarter, the Blue and Green outscored Coast Guard 6-1 down the stretch to lock up the victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-0) hosts Framingham State on Friday, March 3 at 3 PM. Coast Guard (2-1) visits Merchant Marine this Saturday at 12 PM.
