Men's Tennis Shuts Out Western New England

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott men’s tennis improved their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) record to 3-2 on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 defeat against the Western New England Golden Bears at South Campus Tennis Courts.

The Gulls improve their overall record to 7-8, while WNE drops to 5-6, and 2-2 in the CCCC.

Endicott won at both first and third doubles by 8-2 scores. Top doubles pair Oliver Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.) and Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I.) had little difficulty with Chris Holzinger (Foster, R.I.) and Pete Lefrancois (Marlboro, Mass.), while Porter Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Mike Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) took care of business at the third doubles spot.

The closest doubles contest came at the \#2 spot, where Ben Randlett (Middlebury, Vt.) and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) were locked in battle with Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and John Mindek (Willington, Conn.). The tandem of Gulls were able to edge their opponents by a 9-8 score after securing an 11-9 tiebreaker victory.

Joggi was also able to edge Holzinger at first singles in the only singles match that went to three sets. Joggi took the first set 7-6 in a 7-5 tiebreak, but Holzinger came back for a 6-1 victory in the second set. Joggi was victorious 10-5 in a tiebreaker to ensure the clean sweep for the Gulls.

At second doubles, Williams won 6-1, 6-2 over JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, Conn.) and sophomore Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.) collected a third singles win over Fitzpatrick. Randlett and Cohen also won in singles and Endicott freshman Tim Forance (Natick, Mass.) collected a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at sixth singles.

The Gulls will next play a non-conference match on Tuesday when they travel to Wheaton College for a 4:00 pm start.

Western New England will stay in the CCC on Tuesday when they host Gordon College at 3:30 pm.
