BEVERLY, Mass. – Looking to move to .500
for the first time since last fall, the Endicott men’s tennis
team fell short as they lost 5-4 to CCC foe Eastern Nazarene on
Saturday.
The Gulls (5-7, 1-1 CCC) return the courts on Tuesday, April
3rd at 3:30 pm with a home match against league opponent
Roger Williams. Eastern Nazarene (8-5, 2-1 CCC) will play
Wentworth on the same day in CCC action.
Endicott freshman Tim Forance (Natick, Mass.) was
the only player to earn points in both singles and doubles play as
he won \#6 singles over Lions sophomore Eric Johnson
(Kingston, Mass.) and in \#3 doubles with Mike
Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) 8-6 over the duo of Johnson
and sophomore Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.).
After dropping two out of three doubles matches to Endicott,
Eastern Nazarene responded with four victories in singles play
including Austin Steelman’s (Darlington,
Md.) 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 three-set win over Gulls junior
Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass.). Despite the
loss, Joggi and teammate Jake Cohen (Barrignton,
R.I.) were able to grab an 8-4 win at the top doubles
flight earlier in the morning.
The Lions, however, saw Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth,
Mass.), Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Luz take the three,
four and five singles match ups to earn the hard-fought 5-4
win.
Gulls senior Porter Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) was
impressive with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win at the \#2 singles position,
Endicott’s only other singles win.
