BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team defeated Western New England, 2-1, in double overtime Saturday afternoon on North Field.
The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead at the 2:10 mark on a goal from Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.).
With just under eight minutes to play in the first half, Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) notched her first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Despite a couple good looks on net by both teams, neither was able to find the go-ahead goal in regulation or the first overtime period.
Five minutes into the second overtime, Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) lifted the ball past a defender, ran into the circle and scored to give the Gulls their fifth Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) improved to 9-2 on the season and recorded nine saves during the win.
- The Gulls outshot the Hawks 24-14.
- Cogliano paced the offense with seven shots.
- Meghan Stanton (Newburyport, Mass.) and Cameron Molinare (Simsbury, Conn.) each recorded a defensive save during the contest.
FOR THE FOES
- Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) shifted to 2-3 overall and made 11 saves in the loss.
- Leading the offense was Carlson who recorded seven shots.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (9-2, 5-0 CCC) travels to Gordon for a 4 p.m. conference matchup on Tuesday, October 3. Western New England (4-4, 2-3 CCC) is at Roger Williams on Tuesday, October 3 for a 7 p.m. contest.
