BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team battled a tough MIT team tonight but were ultimately handed a 4-3 overtime loss.
MIT got on the board first with a tally from Devon Goetz (Rockville, Md.) and then Rayna Higuchi (Solana Beach, Calif.) added a goal to give the Engineers the 2-0 lead.
As the first half expired, the Gulls capitalized on a corner opportunity when Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) netted her second goal of the season to make the score 2-1.
MIT's Megan Flynn (Branchburg, N.J.) increased the lead to 3-1 at the 42:25 mark but Endicott continued to up the offensive pressure. The Gulls' efforts paid off when Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) cut the deficit to 3-2 less than three minutes later.
Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) netted the game tying goal at 57:06 on a pass from Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.). Neither team could find the game-winner in regulation, so the contest went into overtime.
Emily Penn (Columbia, Md.) found the back of the net just over four minutes into the extra period to give the Engineers the 4-3 victory.
