BEVERLY, Mass. - In a battle of two of the top teams in the New England region, the Endicott women's volleyball team fell to No. 15 nationally ranked Johnson & Wales (R.I.) by a 3-1 final on Thursday night. With the setback, the Gulls fall to 11-5, while JWU improves to 12-3 on the season.
After falling in the first set by a 25-20 final, Endicott responded with a 25-22 win in the second to tie the match at 1-1. The Wildcats would then respond by claiming a tight third 25-21 before taking the fourth, 25-15, and claiming the 3-1 win.
The Gulls were led offensively by Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) as she finished with a match-high .467 average after posting seven kills on 15 error-free swings. The middle also added five total blocks (1 solo, 4 assist) to her night. Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) finished with 31 assists and 12 digs while Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) finished with 22 digs in the setback.
BEYOND THE BOX
- Remi Quesnelle (Southborough, Mass.) finished with nine kills and nine digs, while fellow outside Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished with eight kills of her own.
- The two programs are now tied at 4-4 in the all-time series.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott(11-5, 2-0 CCC), will play host to Middlebury on Saturday at 1:00 PM. JWU (12-3, 2-0 GNAC) travels to St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday for an 11:00 AM start.
