BEVERLY, MA - The New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association announced its 2005 women's soccer all-stars Monday afternoon and five Endicott players sprinkled the list.
NEWISA named senior defender Katie Cederberg (Grafton, MA/Grafton) to the first team, while junior sweeper Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, Ma/Notre Dame Academy) and senior midfielder Jillian Zagura (Hudson, MA/Hudson) made the second team and sophomore striker Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) and Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) took home third team honors.
Cederberg was the Commonwealth Coast Conference Student-Athlete of the Year this fall for her efforts in the classroom and on the field. An Education major, Cederberg has a 3.99 GPA and has started every game in her four-year career. She anchored a defense that allowed seven goals in the regular season and has two goals and seven assists in her career.
Wiencko was another key contributor to the Gulls' stifling defense. The CCC second-team all-star was the backbone of a defense that allowed a conference-low 13 goals and recorded 11 shutouts. Wiencko also scored three goals and had nine points from here sweeper position.
Endicott's offense was equally impressive, posting 8.89 points per game and averaging 3.47 goals per game. Both stats ranked first in the CCC. Zagura was a factor at both ends of the field and helped quarterback the high-flying Gulls' attack. She netted 10 goals and dished out six assists (26 points) for EC to earn CCC honorable mention honors.
McGinn and D'Amario were the centerpieces of the offense. Each player earned NSCAA/Addidas All-New England honors this season while McGinn was the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year. She compiled a conference-high 21 goals and 47 points in 19 games, including 16 goals and 37 points in 12 conference games while D'Amario, a CCC second-team selection, netted 12 goals and five assists for 29 points in 19 contests. She also had nine goals for 22 points (which ranked second in the CCC behind McGinn) in 12 conference games.
Together the five players helped create a formidable team that finished 15-4-1 in 2005. The Gulls won their third straight CCC title (5th overall) in 2005 and an automatic NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
