BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott men's and women's soccer teams will each host Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament first round games Saturday.
The top-seeded women will play No. 8 Salve Regina University at noon while the men earned the third seed and will take on Colby-Sawyer College (3:00 pm).
The women were unstoppable in conference play, recording a 12-0-0 record to capture the program's fifth straight CCC regular season title. The Gulls (12-3-1) currently rank fifth in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Poll and 11th in the NSCAA New England Regional Poll. Endicott has won three of the last four CCC Tournaments, which carries with it an automatic NCAA bid.
Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) has been the Gulls' catalyst all season. The sophomore striker leads the team with 16 goals and 37 points and is backed by two more capable scorers in midfielders Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) and Jillian Zagura (Hudson, MA/Hudson). D'Amario, a junior, has nine goals and five assists while the senior Zagura has amassed seven goals and three helpers.
Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt) has enjoyed another stellar season in goal for Endicott. The junior has a miniscule 0.72 goals against average and is the backbone of a defense that has allowed just 10 goals all season.
Junior sweeper Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, MA/Notre Dame Academy) heads up the defense, but also has three goals and two assists from the backline. Senior Katie Cederberg (Grafton, MA/Grafton) flanks Wiencko at right fullback while fellow senior Allison Lyons (Brooklyn, CT/Killingly)patrols the left back and junior Meghan Sniegoski (Boxboro, MA/Acton-Boxborough) is at stopper.
The Gulls have enjoyed the friendly confines of Endicott Stadium since it opened in 1999. The team will again have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Endicott is 6-1-1 (lost to Bates, 2-1; tied Salem State, 0-0) at home this season but has not lost a CCC home game since the CCC Tournament final in 2002 when the Gulls were bested by Nichols College, 4-3, in overtime. That is a string of 24 games. Moreover, Endicott has not lost a CCC conference game since a double overtime defeat at Wentworth (1-0) on September 29, 2004.
