BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College saw its 12-game unbeaten streak come to an end at the hands of Bates College, who scored the final two goals of the non-conference game to beat the Gulls, 2-1, Sunday on Senior Day at Endicott Stadium.
The Bobcats also became the first team to win on Endicott turf in almost a year. Williams, also in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, was the last team to beat the Gulls at Endicott Stadium in the NCAA Division III Tournament (November 10, 2004). Bates improved to 10-3-0 (5-3-0 NESCAC) with the victory while Endicott fell to 11-3-1 overall (11-0-0 CCC).
Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) gave the Gulls an early 1-0 advantage on perfect through ball from Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow). McGinn walked in alone at the 41:13 mark and blasted a goal to the lower left corner. That was the last time Nini Spalding (San Francisco, CA/University High School) would be beaten, however, as the Bobcats turned up the pressure immediately following the EC tally.
Mary Bucci (Norfolk, MA/Bishop Feehan) rang a shot off the post at the 35:10 mark and less than one minute later the contest was knotted at 1-1 when Jesse Gargiulo (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxboro) converted a shot from the 18-yard line that beat goaltender Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt).
Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) then recorded the game-winning goal on a direct kick 2:46 into the second half after Loguidice was whistled for holding the ball too long.
Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, MA/Notre Dame Academy) played well in front of Loguidice, who made 11 stops in the game.
Endicott will travel to Salve Regina for its final regular season match Wednesday (3:00 pm).
