Boxscore

Medford, Mass. –
The Endicott women’s lacrosse team faced the \#13 ranked Tufts University on Thursday afternoon, losing 19-10 as the Jumbos outscored the Gulls 13-3 in the second half.

Endicott (9-4, 8-0 TCCC) held a slim 7-6 advantage at halftime thanks to three-goal streak to end the opening half. Tufts improved to 8-3 (4-2 NESCAC) with their seventh win in the past eight games.

Sophomore Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) and junior Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) each found the back of the net three times in the loss. Davis was a perfect 3-for-3 on shot attempts while DeShaw added to her team-leading goal number and now has 43 on the season.

Gulls sophomore attacker Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.), for the third game in-a-row, scored two goals and now has 14 tallies on the season.

For the Jumbos, junior midfielder Casey Egan (Massapequa, N.Y.) led all scorers with five goals while attackers Stephanie Perez (East Providence, R.I.) and Kelly Hyland (Acton, Mass.) each added three goals apiece.

Tufts second-half goalkeeper Tess Shapanka (Sudbury, Mass.) earned the victory as the Jumbos defense caused nine turnovers and allowed just three Endicott goals. Defense and draw controls helped the Jumbos control possession. Tufts had a 21-10 draw control advantage and outshot the Gulls 31-18 for the game.

Tufts scored the first four goals of the game within 10 minutes before Endicott crawled back into the game by netting four of the next six goals. Down 6-4, the Blue and Green closed out the first half with three straight goals by DeShaw, Davis, and Tierney to take the 7-6 halftime lead. DeShaw and Tierney scored their goals on free position attempts while Davis went unassisted to beat the goalie.

The second half, however, started with eight straight scores by the Jumbos. Four of those goals were scored by Egan.

Down 14-7, Endicott went back-to-back with Brooke Neuman (Stamford, Conn.) and DeShaw to make it a five-goal game but that is as close as the Gulls would get. Tufts scored five straight goals before Endicott’s Tierney netted her second goal of the game on a free position attempt with 52 seconds left on the clock.

Gulls goalie Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) made seven saves in the cage while Tufts’ first half goalie, Sara Bloom (Summit, N.J.), made four saves before giving way to Shapanka in the second half.

Endicott will look to get back on track on Saturday, April 16th with a road game against TCCC rival Gordon College starting at 1:00 pm.
