New London, NH - The Gulls solid play that began in Florida continued today as they defeated CCC preseason favorite Colby Sawyer by two, 52-50, on the road. The Commonwealth Coast Conference win is only the 2nd victory for Endicott over the Chargers in their 13 game series dating back to 1998.
The Gulls went ahead by six on Liz Yuneman's free throw with 5:59 to play. Colby-Sawyer cut the lead to three, 46-43, on a free-throw by Stacey Hildreth with 2:04 left, and tied the game at 46 on Kristen Sorensen's three-pointer with 1:35 remaining. Endicott put the game away at the free throw line, hitting six of their eight free-throw attempts over the next minute and a half.
The Gulls assembled a well balanced attack with 8 players scoring and all 5 starters tallying 8 or more points. Lisa Chartier was the only Endicott player in double figures, scoring 11 points. Yuneman added nine points, while Holly Beth Wojcik, Carly Haynes and Jodi Brown each added eight points. Haynes and Wojcik led the Gulls on the boards with 9 and 8 rebounds respectively.
Hildreth scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Chargers, who also got 15 points from Sorensen. Jaime Peterman added nine points and 15 rebounds for Colby-Sawyer.
The Gulls (3-6, 1-1 CCC) travel down the road to Salem State on Tuesday, January 11th for a 6:00 p.m. tip off. Colby-Sawyer (7-4, 2-1 CCC) returns to action on Thursday, January 13, when they host Gordon at 5:30 p.m.
