BEVERLY, Mass. - For the first time in Endicott men's volleyball program history, one of its players has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week. Sophomore A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.) was handed that honor after he led the Gulls to a perfect 3-0 mark last week.
In Endicott's first match of the week, a 3-0 win over Mount Ida, Witkofsky had 10 kills, nine digs and a six blocks. He followed that match up by putting away 26 kills in 40 attempts with only three errors for a .575 hitting percentage in a, 3-2, come-from-behind upset of 14th-ranked Rivier College. He also added eight digs and seven blocks in the win. He finished the week with a 17-kill, seven-dig and seven-block performance in a sweep of Elms. For the week, Witkofsky hit. .471 and averaged 4.82 kills, 2.18 digs, 1.82 blocks and 6.14 points per game. Witkofsky is the first player from Endicott to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week award.
Endicott closed out its regular season on Monday night with a three-game sweep over the University of New Haven. The Gulls will make their second-straight NECVA Tournament appearance on Friday, as they travel to host Ramapo College (N.J.) with a 6:00 p.m. showdown with the Roadrunners.
