AVON PARK, Fla. - The Endicott College men's volleyball team split its first two matches of their spring break trip, sweeping Fontbonne in three, and then falling to seventh-ranked Carthage, 3-1, on Friday evening in Avon Park, Florida.
Sophomore A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.) came to play against Fontbonne, notching 17 kills and four blocks in the Gulls three-game sweep. Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y.) notched 43 assists while Jeremy Hamel (Industry, Maine) and Dan Coleman (Millis, Mass.) accounted for 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
In the 8:00 p.m. timeslot Endicott ran into the nation's seventh-ranked team in Carthage College. The Gulls captured the opening game, 34-32, but then fell 25-30, 27-30, and 24-30. John Emery (Westford, Mass.) nailed 16 kills against CC, while A.J. Witkofsky had 13 kills and 14 digs. Ben Foster had 53 assists and Dan Coleman racked-up 24 digs in the loss.
Endicott (13-12 overall, 6-3 NECVA) returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they match-up with a pair of NECVA squads in Medaille and Stevens Tech. The Gulls then wrap-up their southern swing on Monday against Warner Southern at 3:00 p.m.
