NEWTON, Mass. - The Endicott College men's volleyball team made quick work of Mount Ida, defeating the Mustangs 3-0 on Friday night in Newton, Massachusetts. With the win, Endicott improves to 2-1, while Mount Ida falls to 1-4.
Game one was all Endicott as the Gulls went on a 6-0 run on three Mount Ida errors, giving EC the 12-6 lead. The errors continued to pile up for the Mustangs while Endicott poured it on pulling away mostly on serving errors by MIC. The hosts were only able to muster 12 total points in the first set, taking the loss and switching sides 30-12 down 1-0 in the match. The Mustangs would have 11 total errors throughout the first stanza while the Gulls would rack up eight kills.
Endicott remained in control in game two, building a 14-11 advantage at the midpoint of the second game. Although the Mustangs did their best to stay close, Endicott was simply too strong as the Blue and Green earned the 30-22 win to go up 2-0.
Mount Ida reverted back to its sloppy play in game three, granting the Gulls points on miscues. The Endicott frontline continued its dominance, guiding the visitors to the 30-13 victory.
The Gulls were led by A.J. Witkofsky's (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) 16 kills. John Emery (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) also had a big night upfront, notching nine kills in the win. Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y./Penn) had 44 assists and six aces while Dan Coleman (Millis, Mass./Millis) posted 10 digs for the Gulls.
Endicott will return to action on Monday evening as they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on the nation's No. 1 team, Springfield College. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
