WEST HAVEN, Conn. - University of New Haven's Chris Lennon had 16 kills and 27 assists as the University of New Haven men's volleyball team logged 23 total blocks in a 3-2 win over Endicott College at Charger Gymnasium Thursday night.
UNH prevailed by scores of 30-22, 20-30, 26-30, 30-26 and 16-14 to improve to 2-0 on the young season. They defeated Lasell College on Tuesday night.
Drew Kirkeby logged 13 kills despite not playing in the first game, while Tommy Musto had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Austin Michalski had 24 assists and 7 block assists, while Matthew Soderstrom continued to lead the way in blocking with four solo's and eight block assists.
Endicott (2-3) was led by A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.), who had a match-high 28 kills and added seven digs and six block assists. Setter Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y.) logged 46 assists, while Dan Coleman (Millis, Mass.) led his club with 13 digs.
UNH won the first game, but then stumbled and dropped games two and three. They rebounded to win the fourth game, and then carried the momentum into game five by taking a 13-6 lead. But Endicott stormed back with four straight points to make it 13-10.
With UNH leading 14-10, again it was Endicott scoring four points in a row - all off UNH errors, to tie the finale at 14-14. New Haven's Peter Kazlas and Kirkeby came through with timely kills to close out the victory for the Chargers.
Endicott returns to action on Friday as they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to Lesley at 8:00 pm.
