Gulls notch NECVA win over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - Endicott College used game scores of 30-17, 30-27, 27-30, and 30-23 to secure an important North East Collegiate Volleyball Association win over Lasell College, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Gulls worked off the short bus ride to Newton and quickly grabbed a 30-17 game one win to pull out in front, 1-0. The Lasers put up a stronger fight in game two, falling 30-27, before rebounding with a 30-27 win of their own to make it a 2-1 match. Endicott, however, was able to hold off a late Lasell charge in game four, taking the game and the match, 30-23.

Endicott was led by an 18 kill effort from A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.). Sophomore John Emery (Westford, Mass.) also played a big role upfront for the visitors, notching 16 kills and eight digs in the win. Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y.), who had an equally strong March Mania weekend, handed out 55 assists in the four-game match. Dan Coleman (Millis, Mass.) and Jeremy Hamel (Industry, Maine) had 19 and 13 digs, respectfully.

With the win, Endicott improves to 12-11 overall and 6-3 in NECVA New England competition. The Gulls will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they open their spring trip in Avon Park, Florida for matches against Fontbonne (4:00 p.m.) and Carthage (6:00 p.m.).
