BEVERLY, MA - New Haven won three straight games to get past Endicott College Friday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.
The Gulls took a seesaw affair in the first game, 34-32, but the Chargers reeled off three straight (30-27, 30-20, 30-21) to win the match.
Endicott, ranked No. 8 in the NECVA Poll and No. 12 in the AVCA National Poll, dropped to 5-4 overall in New Haven's season opening win.
Freshman outside hitter Clay Ostrander (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton) led EC with 17 kills and two aces for 20 points. He also dug up 16 balls while freshman outside hitter Dan Coleman (Millis, MA/Millis) set a school record for digs in a match with 22 and the Gulls also set a school mark for digs in a four-game match (75).
Junior middle hitter George Chapell (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) one solo blocks and four block assists for Endicott while junior Matt Keepin (Harwinton, CT/Lewis S. Mills) pitched in with 10 kills for 11.5 points.
Gulls' senior setter Eric Hunter (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) dished out 42 assists, freshman Joe Douglass (Beverly, MA/St. John's Prep) chipped in two blocks and senior Mike Coflesky (Royalston, MA/Athol) added 8.5 points on eight kills and an ace to go with 12 digs.
The Gulls visit Lasell next Wednesday night (7) while New Haven hosts Rivier Monday.
