HOBOKEN, NJ - The Endicott College men's volleyball team lost for the first time this season at the hands of two top 10 teams. The Stevens Institute of Technology is ranked sixth in CSTV/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Poll while New York University is No. 3.
The two powerhouses toppled Endicott in straight games.
Endicott lost to Stevens, 3-0, and was swept by NYU, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in a tri-match at Stevens Tech. The ducks (4-6) also were swept by NYU.
Stevens Tech rolled to a 30-20, 30-25, 30-18 victory over the Gulls behind freshman outside hitter/setter Joe Trinsey, who totaled 12 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Trinsey hit .429 (12-3-21) against the Gulls while junior middle/outside hitter Scott Stoner (Wantagh, N.Y.) also had 12 kills as he hit .444 (12-4-18).
Stoner added nine digs and three blocks. Junior setter/outside hitter Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, Calif.) tallied a team-high 47 assists. Schulte hit .750 with three kills and no attack errors. Bock, who hit .529 (11-2-17), finished with 11 kills, seven digs and two blocks while appearing in two games.
Endicott (3-2) received 16 kills from freshman outside hitter Clay Ostrander (Wheaton, Ill.). Senior outside hitter Eric Hunter (Delmar, N.Y.) had 23 assists in the match.
Stevens hit .440 (59-15-100) as a team against the Gulls. Endicott had 22 attack errors and only hit .065 (28-22-92) in the match.
Endicott travels to Cambridge, Massachusetts Monday evening to square off with Lesley University at 7:30 PM.
