CCC SEMIFINALS: No. 2 Roger Williams Edges No. 3 Endicott, 5-3

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott men's tennis team fell to Roger Williams, 5-3, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals on Tuesday evening at the RWU Tennis Courts.

Endicott produced a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

After falling 8-4 in the No. 2 slot to start the match, Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) / Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) responded for the Gulls with an 8-5 triumph at No. 1.

Oliver Pope (Dartmouth, Mass.) / Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) capitalized on the newfound momentum with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 to claim the advantage headed into singles.

From there, Janith Madhok (New Delhi, India) secured a swift 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, but Roger Williams answered with four straight victories to punch its ticket to the CCC Championship.

"We left it all out on the court. Credit to Roger Williams, their defense was able to outlast our offense," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We pushed the defending champs to the brink and we will give it another go next year."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Roger Williams improved to 10-2 at home this season.
  • Madhok bumped his singles record to 11-8 overall.
  • Nick/Rinkert finish the year at 7-4 in doubles (6-3 at No. 1).
  • Pope/Richtarich conclude the season at 10-4 as a doubles pairing (5-3 at No. 3).

WHAT'S NEXT

Roger Williams (16-2) will defend its league title on the road at first-seeded Nichols on Saturday, April 7 at 3 PM.

Endicott sees its 2021-22 season come to a close at 10-11 overall.
