Men's Tennis Breezes By Springfield, 8-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team bested Springfield College, 8-1, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.

Endicott came out of doubles play with a 2-1 advantage behind hard-fought wins at No. 1 and No. 3.

The doubles pairings for the Gulls featured Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) / Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) at No. 1 (8-6) and Oliver Pope (Dartmouth, Mass.) / Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) at No. 3 (8-4), respectively. 

From there, Endicott swept the remaining singles slots in numerical order behind wins from Nick (1-6, 6-1, 10-3), Janith Madhok (New Delhi, India) (6-0, 6-4), Rinkert (6-3, 6-4), Pope (6-1, 6-2), Richitarich (6-1, 6-1), and George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) (3-6, 6-2, 10-8).

"It was impressive to see the boys respond strongly from a quick turnaround," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We are getting more disciplined, and should really feel confident about how we competed today."

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • The Gulls are 3-1 at The Nest this season. 
  • Springfield fell to 0-2 away from home this year.

Endicott (3-7) hosts Salve Regina on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 PM. Springfield (3-5) travels to Trinity (Conn.) on Wednesday, March 30 at 3:30 PM.
