Endicott squeaks by Southern Maine, 5-4

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s tennis team defeated the University of Southern Maine, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference tennis action in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls improve to 3-4 overall while the Huskies fall to 1-2 this season. Endicott’s \#Dan Murray\# (Coventry, R.I.) improved to 6-1 in singles play with his win at No. 1 singles.

In doubles play, Endicott was able to grab an early lead on the Huskies as \#Dan Murray\# and \#Devon Locke\# (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) defeated Josh Warren and Michael Sarrazin 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. USM grabbed its only win in doubles when Shane Belanger and Zach Caron defeated \#Olivier Joggi\# (Stoneham, Mass.) and \#Justin Nguyen\# (Shelton, Conn.), 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. Endicott rebounded at No. 3 doubles however, as \#Porter Williams\# (Norwalk, Conn.) and \#Scott Kitchen\# (Norwell, Mass.) picked up an 8-6 win over Jonathon Sproul and Matt McGowan.

The Gulls clinched the win with victories in the top three singles spots. \#Dan Murray\# defeated Josh Warren 6-4, 6-3, while \#Devon Locke\# defeated Michael Sarrazin, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. \#Olivier Joggi\# grabbed the deciding win at No. 3 singles with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Matt McGowan. USM picked up wins at the other singles positions with Shane Belanger, Zach Caron and Jonathon Sproul grabbing wins for the Huskies.

The Blue and Green return to action on Tuesday when the Gulls host Curry College in a TCCC matchup at 3:30 p.m. The University of Southern Maine will host Thomas College on April 6th in a match scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
