WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Endicott College baseball team lost a pair of one-run games to McDaniel College on Thursday afternoon at the Russmatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. The Green Terror handed Endicott a 4-3 loss in game one and then held off a furious comeback attempt by the Gulls in defeating the Blue and Green, 8-7, in game two. The Gulls fall to 3-4 this season while McDaniel improves to 4-3 in 2010.

In game one, the Gulls fell behind early on a three-run homerun by Sergio Nieto (Mameroneck, N.Y.). The Green Terror added one more run in the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead on a Russell Coover (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) RBI single.

Both teams were held scoreless over the next few innings until the top of the sixth inning when the Gulls made it a one run game. \#Chris Dominguez\# (Braintree, Mass.) would come around on an RBI single by \#Andrew Betts\# (Bristol, Conn.). Betts would come around to score from first on an RBI double by \#Colin Sitarz\# (West Hartford, Conn.). Following a wild pitch that allowed Sitarz to move to third, Mike Russo’s (Natick, Mass.) RBI single left the Gulls trailing 4-3.

\#Kevin Dupras\# (Belchertown, Mass.) held the Green Terror scoreless in their half of the sixth but the Gulls were sat down in order in the top of the seventh by Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md.) including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

The Gulls were led by Betts and Sitarz who each went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored. Dupras suffered the setback in his first collegiate start, giving up three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.

McDaniel’s Nieto was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, all coming on his homerun. Danny Snight picked up the win by going seven innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

The Green Terror got off to a quick start again in game two as McDaniel posted six runs in the opening frame, including a grand slam from Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y.). McDaniel made it a 7-0 ballgame in the top of the third as Brandon Kline (Myersville, Md.) scored on a wild pitch. Endicott got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth as Ralph Fidaleo (Fairfield, Conn.) blasted a two-run homerun that scored Colin Sitarz.

McDaniel added one more run in the top of the fifth before Endicott hung five runs on the Green Terror in their half of the inning. Sitarz got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly that scored \#Robbie Goldstick\# (Deerfield, Ill.). Fidaleo picked up his third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly and then Russo and \#Joe Klein\# (Monroe, Conn.) added back-to-back RBI singles prompting a McDaniel pitching change. The Gulls added one more in the inning when Russo came around to score on a wild pitch but that would be as close as the Blue and Green would get. The teams combined for only one hit over the final two innings as McDaniel held on for an 8-7 win.

Endicott had four different players have multi-hit games including \#Eric Lemke\# (Southington, Conn.) and \#Joe Klein\# who each went 2-for-4. Sitarz was 2-for-3 while \#Chris Dominguez\# was 3-for-4 at the dish. Fidaleo led the Gulls with three RBI. \#Mike Griffin\# (Arlington, Mass.) suffered the setback for the Gulls, giving up six earned runs on only two hits in a third of an inning. \#Matt Sharon\# (Wallingford, Vt.) pitched well in relief, throwing 2.1 innings and giving up no hits while striking out six.

McDaniel’s Brandon Kline was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI while Patrick Christopher (Union Bridge, N.J.) also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Longo went 1-for-3 but did all of his damage in one swing with his first inning grand slam. Tyler Oakes (Oak Ridge, N.J.) picked up the win for McDaniel, throwing 4.2 innings while giving up six earned runs on 11 hits. Gio Fricchione (New Tripoli, Pa.) gave up only one hit in relief of Oakes to close out the Gulls.
